Innovation, Technology Transfer, and Commercialization

The Directorate of Innovation, Technology Transfer, and Commercialization (DITTC) advances the University of Zambia's research agenda by transforming research outputs into innovative products and services that benefit society. DITTC facilitates the transfer of technology and knowledge from the University to industry, government, and communities, fostering a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and commercialization that ensures the University's research output meets national and international standards.
The DITTC is responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing the University's innovation, technology transfer, and commercialization strategy, guidelines and procedures;
  • Managing intellectual property, innovation, technology transfer, and commercialization activities;
  • Promoting innovation and entrepreneurship within the research community; and
  • Building strategic partnerships with national and international stakeholders.

Key functions of DITTC include:

  • Providing support services for intellectual property management, technology licensing, and entrepreneurship development;
  • Identifying and developing business opportunities for University innovation outputs;
  • Building partnerships with industry, government, and other stakeholders to commercialize University innovation;
  • Creating opportunities for students to display innovative ideas through events, competitions, and exhibitions.

Objectives

  • Objectives of DITTC are to:
  • Enhance the University's innovation and commercialization profile;
  • Promote licensing and registration of innovations;
  • Support development of innovative products and services;
  • Contribute to the University's innovation output and societal impact; and
  • Drive socio-economic development in Zambia and beyond through innovation.
