Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine

The Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine is the main programme offered by the school. The objective is to produce veterinarians who will be recognised internationally and who will be competent to engage in:

The promotion of animal production development in Zambia and elsewhere through improved animal health control, surgical intervention, breeding and nutritional programmes
The promotion of public health through the control of zoonotic diseases and other infections and intoxications transmissible to man through animal production
Basic and applied research in the field of veterinary medicine and surgery
Teaching and academic curriculum development in veterinary education
Appropriate livestock and poultry production industries.

Courses

Category A- Second Year Entrants
- Full Form V or Grade 12 Certificate with at least five credits or better and Diploma in agriculture with Animal Science major or related qualifications; with at least 2 years post graduate experience.
- Full Form V or Grade 12 certificate with at least five credits or better and a Bachelor of Science degree; with at least 2 years post graduate experience.
- An applicant without post graduation experience shall be admitted directly to the school if he/she obtained a Diploma with Merit, majoring in Animal Sciences or Biomedical Sciences or related qualification.
- “A” Level passes in Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Sciences and Management or Physics
Category B- Third Year Entrants
- Full Secondary School Certificate with at least five credits or better and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Sciences degree with credit, majoring in Animal Science.

Please note that tuition fees are paid in four installments as indicated below:

The initial installment is 25% of the tuition fees, plus all other/user fees paid at registration
The second installment is 25% of the tuition fees paid at the end of the first term
The third installment is 25% of the tuition fees paid in the second term
The last installment is 25% of the tuition fees is paid before writing the final examination.
