ASTRIA donates to Alumni Relations and Advancement Directorate

The University of Zambia Alumni Relations and Advancement is pleased to announce receipt of an annual endowment towards the Scholarship fund of K100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Kwacha).

The endowment, to be disbursed to deserving financially disadvantaged students was presented to the University of Zambia by Astria Learning on Thursday, 16 March 2017.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Astria Learning Chief Executive Dr Jeff Bordes explained that there were many potential leading scholars, scientists and corporate leaders in society who had been marginalised from realising their potential on account of lack of access to finance for higher education.

Allumni Relations & Advancement Board Chairperson, Dr Tukiya Kankasa–Mabula, noted that the gesture by Astria Learning was a very important milestone in setting the pace to realiSe the vision by the Alumni Relations and Advancement Board to create the largest and most prestigious University of Zambia scholarships endowment fund.

“Our vision of the outcomes of the agenda for promotion of the scholarships pillar in Alumni Relations and Advancement is that it will be a major tool for internationalisation of the University of Zambia. Whereas some of the funds will be applied to our local people, we also want the University of Zambia to begin to offer scholarships to bright students globally to come and study at the University of Zambia. The latter will contribute to creating an environment where our indigenous students are exposed to a different world view of learning and culture,” said Dr Mabula.

Astria Learning is one of the fastest growing E-learning solution provider in the world. The company is based in Florida, USA and currently supports over 450,000 students in eight (8) countries.
