Masters of Clinical Pharmacy

Clinical pharmacy is the branch of Pharmacy where pharmacists provide patient care that optimizes the use of medication and promotes health, wellness, and disease prevention. The practice of clinical pharmacy embraces the concepts of both pharmaceutical care and medicines management, which encompasses the entire way in which medicines are selected, procured, delivered, prescribed, administered and reviewed to optimise the contribution that medicines make to producing informed and desired outcomes of patient care. Clinical pharmacy is a comprehensive health subject that embraces pharmaceutical care as integral part of patient care as desired.

The Department of Pharmacy, with the help of collaborating partners developed and initiated the postgraduate training program in clinical pharmacy. This is in line with Zambian government’s vision to provide and actively support the development of pharmacy for the country in order to provide the pharmaceutical services with appropriately trained personnel. Also, this vision is in line with that of the university to develop a pool of staff that can be utilized in different fields of university activities through its staff development fellowship (SDF).
